Garlic Oil: Your Best Friend This Winter

Garlic Oil has long been recognised as an essential oil with the best benefits to counter the winter blues. This is because, as its name suggests, Garlic Oil is derived from garlic; a well-known super food. This Oil is made through a process of steam distillation of garlic cloves. It can also be made through soaking the cloves in a carrier oil, which allows the active components of the garlic to filter into the carrier oil, infusing it with the garlic’s qualities and benefits.

Some of the top reasons why Garlic Oil can be of help to you this winter include:

  • Garlic Oil is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and antiseptic. As a result, it helps to bolster your immune system which means that it actively helps to prevent and fight the symptoms of colds and flus (as well as many other diseases and infections).
  • Historically, garlic as an ingredient has been known across many different cultures to be a natural performance enhancer. Garlic Oil has thus been proven to help in reducing the fatigue that winter usually brings, while enhancing and maintaining performance.
  • Garlic Oil has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This means that it effectively aids in the topical treatment of cuts and other minor injuries. When it is cold these ‘minor’ injuries seem to hurt a lot more than in the warmer months (this is reportedly due to the fact that nerve-endings are more sensitive at lower temperatures and because muscles and skin become less elastic, and therefore less resistant to injuries, when they are cold). Topical application of Garlic Oil helps to soothe the pain as well as encourage blood flow to the area for a quicker recovery.

Why the World Wants Lemon Essential Oil in Bulk

Citrus oils have long been used in the essential oils industry. This is not surprising considering the wide range of citrus available as well as the exceptional benefits oils derived from citrus offer.

The term citrus has Latin/Greek origins, originally derived from the Latin ‘Citron’ described as a pale-yellow fruit. The Citron was the original lemon fruit and the fruit we know as the lemon today was created over time through hybridisation. Through this process (which occurred both naturally and with the help of Botanists) the lemon has been cultivated to be optimal for the natural production of a unique and beneficial essential oil.

Among the wide range of Citrus fruit used for essential oils, lemon is one of the more highly favoured. This may be due to the vast range of benefits and uses that lemon provides. Its uses range from flavouring to cleaning to pharmaceutical and beyond. Lemon Essential Oil is extracted from the peel of the lemon fruit through cold expression. Its main chemical components are a-pinene, camphene, b-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, a-terpinene, linalool, b-bisabolene, limonene, trans-a-bergamotene, nerol and Neral.

According to the Essential Oils Market by Product Type (Orange, Lemon, Lime, Peppermint, Citronella, Jasmine), Method of Extraction, Application (Food & Beverage, Cosmetics & Toiletries, Aromatherapy, Home Care, Health Care), and Region – Global Forecast to 2022: “The global essential oils market has grown steadily in the last few years. The market size is projected to reach USD 11.19 Billion by 2022, at a CAGR of 8.83% from 2017 to 2022”. The report further states that this increase can be attributed to the upswing in awareness of preventative healthcare, improved standards of living among consumers, and the increasing of reported cases of depression and anxiety disorders. This has resulted in a growing demand for essential oils for the aromatherapy industry.

In addition, the current global socio-cultural trend is shifting towards chemical free, organic and/or alternative products and modes of health treatment. This has also accounted for the increase in demand for bulk supplies of essential oils, namely citrus. The Clive Teubes Group, for example, moves on average 47 789.42 kgs of Citrus per month.

Focusing specifically on Lemon Essential Oil, its main uses and applications for purchasing this oil in bulk are to satisfy the high demand for lemon in the following industries:

  • Food & Beverage Industry: Lemon has a strong, distinct flavour that has been used and favoured in the food and beverage industry for many years. It is used predominantly as a flavouring agent in beverages.
  • Cleaning Industry: Due to the two dominant compounds found in Lemon Oil, namely limonene and b-pinene, Lemon Essential Oil works as a natural antimicrobial agent. This makes it a very powerful ingredient within all cleaning products, but especially in organic cleaning products.
  • Health Care Industry: Lemon has a vast array of health benefits as it has anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also used for mental health in aromatherapy practices, as it aids in relieving symptoms of stress and fatigue by creating a sense of rejuvenation.

Minty Fresh: Menthol Crystals

As their name implies Menthol Crystals are crystals derived from menthol (mint). As the solid constituent of mint oil, Menthol Crystals share many of the Mint Oil’s characteristics, including its signature scent. Once the essential Mint Oil is created, through a process of distillation of the mint leaf, this oil is frozen at a temperature of -22 degrees Celsius. This process causes the menthol to crystalise. Due to the crystals being highly concentrated, only a small amount is customarily needed in application of its many uses. Some of these uses are:

  • For Your Skin: Menthol Crystals can be added to carrier oils and applied topically to the skin to reduce dryness and itchiness. It is also effective in treating skin irritations and relieving the pain associated with sunburn.
  • For Your Hair: Menthol Crystals can be added to your haircare products to increase hair strength and foster faster growth.
  • For Your Health: Menthol Crystals are effective in treating digestive ailments and relieving symptoms such as nausea. They also have a calming property and aid in reducing stress, increasing feelings of energy and rejuvenation, and enhancing quality of sleep. Menthol Crystals can help in reducing fever by placing the crystals onto the forehead. They can also help to reduce inflammation, as well as reducing stress, anxiety and headaches.
  • For Your Home: Menthol Crystals act as a natural and organic insect repellent. They are also commonly used as a non-toxic air freshener and linen and/or room spray.

Pine Oil: More than just a Wonderful Scent

Pine Oil is best known for its wonderfully natural scent which induces feelings of relaxation and fosters an atmosphere of calm. Although this is true, and will be elaborated on later, Pine Oil offers many other surprising benefits and uses

  • Pine Oil helps with the respiratory system. Hippocrates reportedly advocated the benefit of Pine Oil as an oil that has strong healing qualities for the respiratory system.
  • It boosts the immune system. Pine Oil has high levels of phenols (acid plant chemicals) which help to boost the immune system and fight off infections and diseases.
  • Relaxes and unwinds. As discussed earlier, the Pine scent is a pure nature scent and the aromatherapeutic results of breathing in this scent are similar to those of taking a break to be in nature: it calms, soothes and rejuvenates you.
  • Eases muscle pain and swelling. Adding Pine Oil to a hot bath or using it in conjunction with a massage oil will help to relieve swollen, aching muscles.
  • Good for hair and skin. Using Pine Oil is a gentle way of treating dehydrated skin and acne. It also helps to reduce dandruff by battling dry scalp problems.
  • It works well as a cleaner. Pine Oil has disinfectant properties and, as a result, it helps to give a strong clean. Adding pine oil to cleaning products will give them a strengthened potency while making your home smell nature fresh.

From the Bud and the Leaf of the Aromatic Clove

The aromatic flower buds known as cloves are found on the clove tree native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, and Madagascar. Cloves are well known for their rich fragrance and are often used as a spice. Essential oils are derived from the clove bud as well as the clove leaf.

Clove Bud Oil has a stronger floral scent than Clove Leaf Oil and as a result it is more commonly used for aromatherapy or for additions to room sprays and air-fresheners. In contrast, the Clove Leaf Essential Oil is not commonly used in aromatherapy. Except for this distinction, however, Clove Bud and Clove Leaf Oil share many of the same benefits.

  • The Oil helps to relieve toothache and to soothe aching gums, while boosting gum health and fighting off future infection. It has also been found that Clove Oil can aid in slowing down decalcification and reducing the instances of cavities and tooth decay.
  • Clove Oil fights off acne. Using small concentrations of Clove Oil – added to a carrier oil and/or mixed with honey – as a facewash reportedly helps to clean and clear the skin of pimples.
  • It’s great for digestion. Clove Oil is often used in the treatment of digestion problems as well as in easing ulcers in the digestive system.
  • Overall health helper. Clove Oil has many health benefits: it is antibacterial, it helps to boost the immune system and it has also been said to be powerful in promoting heart health.

The Reasons for the Increased Demand for Lemon Oil

Lemon Oil is well known in the market as a highly sought-after oil. The demand for Lemon Oil can be attributed to its wide variety of benefits. These benefits were undiscovered for many years, as initially Lemon trees were only used for aesthetic and decorative purposes, or for the juice of the lemon.

In the modern world, the increasing knowledge of Lemon Oil, coupled with the current cultural move towards organic living, is leading to an increase in demand for Citrus products.

Lemon Oil, among other Citrus products, has survived the recent water shortages. It is not only meeting increased demand but is maintaining a good quality of fruit production as well.  Increases in demand have also resulted in the citrus season being extended. This aids in the attempt to provide Lemon Oil year-round. Some of the many benefits of Lemon Oil have been highlighted below:

  • Lemon Oil is popular in aromatherapy as it aids in reducing stress, improving sleep, rejuvenating the mind and increasing energy.
  • Lemon Oil is a safe way for expectant mothers to reduce the nausea that is often accompanied with morning sickness
  • Lemon Oil is effective in aiding weight loss, as it assists the body in the process of breaking down fat cells.
  • Lemon Oil helps to nourish the skin and in the treatment of acne. It also works well in lightening skin pigmentation. Lemon Oil can also be used in conjunction with the sun as a natural way to lighten hair.
